Navigon: High-end navigation, low price tag
Our gadget guy says Navigon's $250 GPS is ready to take on Garmin and Magellan. What do you think?

Form my experience, Garmin is still the best from all other nav brands I have tried.

It all depends on the mapware. Garmin is king. TOMTOM stinks in comparison. I have used Garmin for 5 years. I decided to try a TomTom for the heck of it. The device is nice, on par with garmin or even better. The mapware stinks. NO COMPARISON AT ALL. The first few times I used TomTom 720 it was WAY off. From a hundred yards to 1/2 mile. POINTS OF INTEREST are non existent compared to Garmin.. I haven't tried this one but it is all about the mapware..

I have owned my TomTom one 3rd Edition for four months. The maps are almost always dead on, uses sirf III chip, best on the market, acquires satellites in a couple of seconds, has features like mapshare (free) that allow users to share map changes points of interest, and has a feature that predicts where satellites will be for at least a week ahead making getting a fix fast, even in my house! I have used GPS systems for over 12 years and this is by far the best I have ever used. The bull about Garmin being king are ridiculous. BTW I only paid $199 from Staples for my unit, it is basic no frills navigation, won't play mp3's but that's not what I got it for. If you want, you can spend $300-$600 for a Garmin device, but it won't get you there any better than the TomTom. The choice is yours, but you'd have to pry my TomTom from my cold fingers!
