Cheese to the Rescue
Barbara Hanley uses her business skills to help farmers. What do you think of her investments in cheese? Can these businesses thrive?
I can't wait for Hannahbelle to come to Florida and enrich the cheese selections. It seems like a win-win proposition for the farmers and speicailty cheese lovers.
Yes! I see that as the future of American business in general. Companies have grown too big, and too impersonal, and frankly don't care much who works for them as long as they profit. That aside, reschooling has limits and its not the answer, because the reasons we are losing jobs is cheaper labour overseas..Small microbusiness based on craft, whether food, shoes, soap, weaving, metal work, that's where it's at.
Barbara's efforts seem honorable, and an unselfish gift of her talents to the local business community. I just hope I'm not reading an article years from now, about how Barbara Hanley diverted trust money and other funds for farmers into a Swiss bank account, and has gone MIA. If this is legitimate, lets challenge other business leaders like Barbara, to work with American auto manufactures, independent truck drivers, and all the small town businesses displaced by Wal-Mart.
I shop at Whole Foods here in Boston – Hannahbelles are now on the list! Great to read about this kind of work…
Saving the family farm is key…the track house/golf course model does not work…but we will always need farms and the food they produce. The best cheese in the world, 'Estrella Family Creamery' right here in Washington State. Eat and Buy Local!

Barbara Hanley should be hailed a heroine for helping out her fellow farmers! Other industries should take a lesson from her.

Recycling Today For A Greener Tomorrow
It's fantastic to read about someone who has made such a difference in the world and in the lives of hard working people.
This is a wonderful program for the farmers, because we need to protect food production in the United States. I believe we should do everything possible to preserve our farms. It is very nice to have some open space and farms. I have to commend Barbara for caring about these farmers.

My family has lived in Westport, MA, the home of the Shy Boys Farm pretty much forever. The farm itself is one of the loveliest pieces of property in Westport, offering outstanding sunsets. My husband and I often thank the heavens that people like Barbara are willing and able to help our farmers keep their land, remain profitable, and maintain our countryside. It's a much better alernative to selling off to developers and seeing gorgeous landscape turned into housing units. Bravo!
