It's just a sign of the "Dot Com's" taking jobs away from people in the real estate and business brokerage fields. It defiantly saves money for the seller and the buyer (when using online services), but it's somewhat harder to sell your business without a broker also.
With the state of the economy where it is today, there will be numerous businesses placed for sale along with inventory that is not selling.Hopefully the government experts can figure out how to redirect the economy before the "D" word starts getting thrown around.

Regional websites like BizBen.com are great for selling or buying businesses in California. Many buyers look to these websites for local and regional businesses for sale. I sold my business on this website and continue to look for regional businesses on it.
Newspapers are dead. I don't know any broker that uses more newspapers than online. In the last four years, I've sold millions of dollars of small businesses online. I'm not in Dallas, Houston or New York. I'm in Wichita Falls, TX. 110,000 people. I have brought people here from all over the country for businesses ranging in size from $100,000.00 to $1,500,000.00 Maybe it's just people wanting to come to Texas but online is where it's at.
However, not all businesses are suited for online. Too small of a cash flow won't motivate someone in Chicago to come here unless it's just the move they're looking for.

We (<a href="http://www.corriganassociates.com" title="Corrigan Associates" – raleigh area business broker) used to spend hundreds of dollars a week in the newspaper classifieds with only marginal results. Online is much better. We use BizBuySell.com and bizquest.com. That and direct mailings has allowed us to sell many businesses. Who knows, just like Roy in Wichita Falls, NC might be the area that people want to move to.
