Dear Mr. Browne,
First of all, congratulations on your article about "indie" artist. I found it most compelling and highly interesting. It was so refreshing to find artists who are really focused on givng the public a true, pure idea of their artistry. I have grown weary of mega-all consuming record companies who turn out cookie cutter performers. Artistry is to be explored, appreciated and shared among the public. Too often it is pushed, peddled and forced on the listener. I too share in the support and encouragement of an "indie" artist. My wife "MelSoultree" will be releasing her second project this month. She too, had the opprotunity to work with a major label and found it frustrating and demeaning. Thus the birth of SoulQuest Records. We have learned and still are learning the careful and delicate balance between artistry and business. We have also learned that the public has varying tastes and styles far beyond that we can imagine. Being independent has allowed for the authenticity of the artist to be uncompromising. Financial challeges help to shape the final decisions that present artists in their truest light. We know it's a small business for now, and I know that will chage soon. Thanks again for the highlight on "indie" artists. I hope the world is listening!
