Great article! Garnett offers valuable insights into the challenges and perils awaiting even the most determined small business owner.

She mentions benefiting from the advice of a career coach who "forced me to focus on getting systems in place and not just reacting to the latest crisis." Not only is this specific advice important to remember, but the larger point is significant as well. No small business owner or president should feel he or she has to "go it alone."

Everyone can benefit from the insights and perspectives of others who have been in the same situation. That's the guiding principle behind Vistage International, an executive performance company. Chief executives of small and mid-sized businesses gather in small groups where they exchange ideas and problem-solving suggestions in a confidential setting. It's been an invaluable asset to the growth of thousands of businesses around the world.

Vistage members have responded with some great ideas about how to guide your business through difficult times. These useful tips can be found at

First congratulations on your success! Also, I was curious about the contest for women entrepreneurs that you won. Can you tell us how to find out more about the contest?
