Hi there,
I think this article could be expanded to include other online services. There are database/CRM type services (SalesForce.com of course always comes to mind, but also ones like Blist.com). Shiftboard, an online scheduling solution is robust and worth looking at. Many SaaS co are helping large and small companies save money — not just payroll.

After trying many ways for 15 plus years finally I am happy with what I have now. From Paychex to ADP to doing it myself, my prayers were answered by "sure payroll". So easy and I love the convenience of having data available online. For workers compensation filing, i just go online , get my reports and be done with it. One big load off my head.
Now I wish my accounting is resolved the sameway somehow. Any ideas?

We first used Intuit's Payroll service which was riddled with mistakes and oversights. They were acquired by ADP and their service is even worse. The transtion resulted in numerous errors and ADP didn't carry over vacation, sick, leave days and their system is unable to report this data. ADP is unable to file and report some required state info as well.

Many of our clients use ADP and Paychex and many have been very dissatisfied with their service.

We are using Paycycle for the last 3 years. We have employees that live in different states. Paycycle provide good service for the money but the functionality they lack is filing the state withholding amount and forms automatically for multiple states. We have to do that manually and it is painful.

I've been a Quick Books user since we incorporated 10 years ago. Their do-it-yourself payroll is great. I pay about $129.00 per year as the fee to be able to stay up with the Fed and State Tax law changes.

It takes me about 1/2 hour every two weeks to do 15 checks and they calculate all the taxes to pay, too.

Saves big $$$ over payroll services and doesn't cost anything extra.

We use an online service called Internet Timecard. Our employees log in to start the day and log out to end the day. The system calculates their hours and pay to the penny. The system is perfect for employees working from home, on the road, or in other offices. It's online so it knits everyone together into one virtual company. We run payroll in seconds and it's deadly accurate. You can use Internet Timecard as a service or you can buy the system outright and integrate it into your Intranet or Web site. I found it at InternetTimecard.com

Paycycle is cheaper than SurePayroll precisely because they don't take full responsibility for your payroll. As I looked at payroll services, it became clear that SurePayroll offers much more value for money. I don't need an online reminder service — I need a competent payroll partner that will take it completely off my plate.

I'd hope you'd have better reviews than this. Try hiring some small business owners to write for you. We can't be spoon fed spin, as is the case with many journalists.
